What personal data we collect
Information you give us
When you use our enquiry form, email us, phone us or message us on WhatsApp, we collect the details you choose to share, such as your name, email address, phone number, the message you send, and any photos, measurements or plans you provide about your project.
Information collected automatically
When you browse our website, we and our service providers may collect technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you visit, how long you stay, and how you arrived at the site. This is collected using cookies and similar technologies, and only where you have agreed to it (see “Cookies and analytics” below), apart from cookies that are strictly necessary.
How we use your data and why
We only use your personal data when we have a lawful reason to do so. We use it to:
- Respond to your enquiry and provide quotes (to take steps at your request before entering into a contract, and our legitimate interest in running our business).
- Carry out and manage work you have asked us to do, including arranging visits, taking payment and keeping records (performance of a contract).
- Keep accounting and tax records (to meet our legal obligations).
- Keep our website secure and prevent spam, including through Google reCAPTCHA (our legitimate interest in protecting the site).
- Understand how our website is used and improve it, and measure our advertising (your consent, which you can withdraw at any time).
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it to make automated decisions that have a legal effect on you.
Cookies and analytics
Our website uses a cookie banner so you can choose which cookies to allow. Cookies are small files placed on your device. They fall into these groups:
- Essential cookies are needed for the site to work and to remember your cookie choices.
- Analytics cookies help us see which pages are popular and how visitors move around the site. We use Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager, and Microsoft Clarity, which records anonymised information about how visitors use the site.
- Marketing cookies are used by us and our advertising partners, such as Google Ads, to measure the performance of our advertising and show relevant ads.
You can change or withdraw your choice at any time by clicking the cookie icon at the bottom of any page. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, although parts of the site may then not work as expected.
Our enquiry form is protected by Google reCAPTCHA, which checks that a message is sent by a person and not a bot. It uses information such as your IP address and browser details, and is subject to the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. Our contact page also shows an embedded Google Map, which may set cookies when it loads.
Who we share your data with
We only share personal data where it is needed to run our business and website. The organisations we use include:
- Our website hosting and web design providers, including Bubblehub Media, who maintain and support the website.
- Our email delivery service (SMTP2GO), which sends the emails generated by our enquiry form.
- Google (Analytics, Tag Manager, Ads, reCAPTCHA and Maps) and Microsoft (Clarity), for the purposes described above.
- WhatsApp (Meta), if you choose to contact us through WhatsApp.
- Our accountants and professional advisers, where necessary.
- The authorities, where we are required to by law.
These providers act on our behalf or for their own purposes under their own privacy policies, and we only use providers that we believe take data protection seriously.
Transfers outside the EEA
Some of the providers listed above are based outside the European Economic Area, for example in the United States. Where your data is transferred outside the EEA, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as an adequacy decision of the European Commission or Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep your data
We keep your personal data only for as long as we need it for the reasons we collected it. Enquiries are kept for as long as needed to deal with your request and any work that follows, and we review and delete enquiries we no longer need. Records we must keep for accounting and tax purposes are kept for the period required by law. Analytics data is kept for the period set in our analytics settings.
Your rights
Under data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- ask us to delete your personal data in certain circumstances;
- ask us to restrict how we use your data in certain circumstances;
- object to us using your data where we rely on our legitimate interests;
- ask for your data in a portable format where we use it based on your consent or a contract; and
- withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on consent. This does not affect the lawfulness of what we did before you withdrew it.
To use any of these rights, please email us at info@brightstarjoinery.com. We may need to confirm your identity first, and we will respond within one month.
How we protect your data
We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect your personal data against loss, misuse and unauthorised access, including using a secure (HTTPS) connection and spam and security protection on the website. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Our website may link to other websites, such as our social media pages. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of other sites, so please read their privacy policies.
Making a complaint
If you have a concern about how we handle your data, please contact us first so we can try to put things right. You also have the right to complain to the Irish Data Protection Commission:
